YOGA PHILOSOPHY
Hatha Yoga

The Yoga Sutra, widely regarded as the authoritative text on yoga, is a collection of texts, outlining the eight limbs of yoga. These 'limbs' of wisdom offer guidelines for living a meaningful and purposeful life. In the West we tend to be focused on Asana (the physical yoga poses) but this is just one-eighth of what yoga encompasses. Learn more about the Sutras and Patanjali, the sage who wrote them here and about the Eight Limbs of Yoga here.

Hatha yoga is thought to have been first referred to in Sanskrit texts around 5000 years ago but some researchers think that yoga’s techniques can be traced back up to 10,000 years. Derived from Sanskrit meaning ‘union,’ some say this is between the physical and spiritual self. Many varying interpretations of the term yoga have been passed on throughout the years and many different styles of yoga have evolved. One of these is Zen Yoga, characteristics include physical alignment, flow of energy in the body and mindfulness. We practice a blended style of vinyasa flow to let the breath guide you from one pose to the next.
